VACANCY: FORENSIC TECHNICIAN AND SENIOR FORENSIC SCIENTIST - KASANE

                                                                               

DATE: October 26, 2024

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of a Senior forensic scientist (SFS) and a Forensic technician (FT) within the Botswana Wildlife and Environmental Forensic Center- Kasane, Botswana. This is a fixed-term position for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Opportunities for other research activities may be available.

Review of applications will begin on November 15th, 2024, and continue until the position is filled. The candidate must be a Botswana citizen.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree (SFS) or bachelor’s degree (FT) in the fields of molecular biology, bioinformatics, or data sciences

  • Strong background and demonstrated experience in molecular biology  (FT/SFS) including genomics, next generation sequencing applications, fragment analysis, microsatellite investigations, and associated bioinformatics (SFS)

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team (SFS)

  • Verbal and written communication skills (SFS/FT)

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail (SFS/FT)

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS THAT WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS

  • Experience as a DNA Examiner in a forensic laboratory (SFS/FT)

  • LIMS management (SFS)

  • Strong understanding of biology, laboratory equipment, and procedures (SFS)

  • Relevant training and/or certification as a Forensic scientist/technician (SFS/FT)

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Successful candidates will be expected to perform the following duties amongst others;

  • Senior forensic scientist

    • Implementing forensic applications and training

    • Develop and conduct research relevant to the job

    • Contribute to the writing of research papers and scientific articles explaining their findings

    • LIMS management

    • Supervision of staff members and research workflows

    • Support forensic casework workflows 

    • Other duties as might be assigned.

  • Forensic technician

    • Support of research and forensic applications

    • Supplies management and ordering

    • Data entry

    • Other duties as might be assigned.

 

SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
